How You Can Help

This ministry thrives through the generosity of the community. Here’s how you can make a difference:

         • Volunteer — Join gleaning and harvesting teams, help with food prep, or assist with language practice.
   • Share Skills — Offer your time to teach, translate, or help refugees navigate life in Tucson.
   • Spread the Word — Share Iskashitaa’s story to help connect more volunteers and resources with the refugee community.

Harvesting Food, Building Community

Iskashitaa Refugee Network is a grassroots organization that helps rebuild refugee lives through partnerships with volunteers and local groups across Tucson. By uniting refugees and the wider community through unique hands-on programs, Iskashitaa creates opportunities for empowerment, connection, and friendship.

Programs emphasize community building, cultural sharing, and English language practice — giving newcomers the chance to thrive and belong in their new home.

Our Impact

Each year, Iskashitaa volunteers harvest and redistribute more than 100,000 pounds of unwanted produce from local homes and farms. This food, which would otherwise end up in landfills, goes to refugees and their families, food banks, and partner organizations across Southern Arizona.

These harvests, cooking gatherings, and other programs bring refugees and Tucson neighbors together — sharing stories, skills, and meals that build lasting friendships and a stronger, more connected community.

Iskashitaa currently serves refugees from countries all over the world, including Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burma, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Cuba, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Russia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Syria.

By working together, we can harvest hope, reduce waste, and help our newest neighbors find community and opportunity in Tucson.
