2026 Be The Neighbor Mission Trip

Explore Faith and Wonder With Us

Why Mission Work Matters To Our Community

Mission work is one of the most beautiful expressions of our church’s core commitments: Be of Service, Spread Joy, and Choose Love. Through our partnership with Be The Neighbor—a justice-based, service-learning ministry—we enter a transformative experience that deepens our faith while strengthening our connections with one another and with the world around us.

Be The Neighbor envisions a world where justice is realized, communities flourish, and every person is supported in their full humanity. Their values reflect our own: love for all people and creation, spiritual grounding, community-building, and the unwavering affirmation of each person’s dignity. They welcome all—embracing diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual orientation—fully aligned with our vision of an inclusive, justice-centered spiritual community.

A core element of modern mission work, and a value deeply held by Be The Neighbor, is the practice of non-colonial service. Rather than arriving with assumptions or ready-made answers, we enter as learners—honoring the leadership, wisdom, and agency of the communities we encounter. We “serve with” rather than “serve for,” recognizing that every neighborhood has its own strengths, stories, and brilliance. This shifts mission work away from charity and toward solidarity, mutual respect, and justice.

Traveling outside our own community expands our hearts and perspectives. Stepping beyond what is familiar invites us to see the world with new eyes, meet people whose experiences differ from our own, and witness how God is moving in places far from home. These journeys deepen our empathy, broaden our understanding of justice, and remind us of our shared humanity. In this way, mission trips become paths of spiritual stretching as much as acts of service.

Mission work gives us the opportunity to learn directly from community leaders, engage in hands-on projects, and reflect deeply on what it means to be a neighbor in a complex and interconnected world. The work opens us to moments of joy, connection, and sacred encounter. Participants often return home changed—more grounded, more compassionate, and more committed to living lives shaped by love, justice, and generosity.

Intergenerational by design, mission trips invite youth, adults, and elders into shared growth and discovery. They provide space for leadership, curiosity, and compassion to flourish side by side. In these ways, mission work brings to life our church’s mission: to cultivate spiritual growth, inclusivity, social justice, and belonging, and to embody a sacred community where these values come together to ignite positive change.

When we partner with Be The Neighbor, we learn not only how to be good neighbors—we help build the kind of world we believe is possible.
