How You Can Help
This ministry thrives through the generosity of the community. Here’s how you can make a difference:
• Join us! We meet on the third Sunday of the month in Room 42, after the 9:30 service.
Whether you participate in one of our ongoing efforts or bring your own ideas on how to move our church and our world ever further toward healing the ecosystem on which all life on earth depends, we would love to have you be a part of the Green Team. Even if you can’t attend the meetings, we do much work online as well.
For more information, or to confirm the date of the next Green
Team meeting, contact the current chair, Kate Kosse, at kosstk@yahoo.com .
Caring for Divine Creation
Creation care has been a part of the St. Francis in the Foothills ethos from the beginning, starting with our name. By evoking the spirit of St. Francis, who was led by his faith to consider all living beings his family, we seek to follow in those footsteps. One of the first commandments in Genesis was to “take care of the birds in the air, the fish in the sea, and every living thing on earth.”
Our Impact
That commitment to protecting the web of life is seen in the church’s 306 solar panels, the rain tank, the xeriscaped campus, the LED light bulbs, the use of intinction for Communion, and more.
The Green Team seeks to promote awareness through:
-
Its monthly ecolesson for Sunday School
-
An annual Earth Day service
-
A monthly EcoTip in the newsletter
As a congregational member of Arizona Interfaith Power and Light, we frequently take action by contacting legislators on environmental concerns. We take on big projects, like working toward the installation of a reusable water bottle filler or the ongoing collection of non-recyclable plastic for the Hefty Renew program, and small, like routinely collecting coffee grounds for mulch.
